“Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.” ~Abraham Lincoln

It is an unfortunately common and human trait for someone who is brilliant and heroic in adversity to become self-centered and tyrannical when given power.  Knowing this can be comforting when facing adversity, but also must instruct us to be intentional about our behavior when given power.  A great leader gets his power from trusting and doing all he can for his people and his stakeholders, not from a title.  Whether you are leading in a family, a community, or a business, be brilliant and heroic in both adversity and power.
