“If I have learned anything in this long life of mine, it is this: in love we find out who we want to be; in war we find out who we are.”

We work intentionally every day to be our best selves, overcoming challenges and our personal demons.  We are at our best when our needs are being met, and potentially at our worst when our needs are denied.
Love, feeling loved and giving love, is the utmost experience and expression of met needs.  And in these moments of love, we learn what our best self can truly be.  We feel more, we give more, we are more.  It is important to recognize these moments and understand what our best self is so we can remember it when we are in less ideal moments.
For in our worst moments of denied needs, fear, anger, and hopelessness reduce us to our worst selves.  It is said that under stress, we become who we really are.  It need not be thus.  We can, with intention, reflect on what it means to be our best self and apply this in our darkest moments.
Today, reflect on the moments when you have felt the closest to the person you aspire to be – likely found in moments of shared love.  Decide that in your next dark moment, that you will push down your worst self and be the person you want to be – present, focused, giving, and fearless.  When done with focused intention, this will move you through challenging times faster and with less damage.
Be your best self!
