“What is the most important thing you could be working on in the world right now? … And if you’re not working on that, why aren’t you?”
~Aaron Swartz
In today’s intense world, there are always intriguing things fighting for our attention and pulling us from what we know is the important thing we need to be doing right now. More than ever before, our ability to achieve our goals is tied to our ability to focus on those people and activities that will move us forward, vs. giving in to the many tempting but unproductive distractions.
Knowing the challenge in staying focused, it is important that we are clear on our goals, that these goals are truly meaningful, and that we work every day to remain true to our commitment to achieve them. A good habit is to begin every day thinking clearly about what we are planning to achieve, the tasks needed today to move forward, and acknowledging what may distract us. In naming both, we stand a better chance of persevering when the distractions hit.
