“Criticism is something we can avoid easily by saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing.”

~Aristotle

944

Criticism can hurt. We all want appreciation and acceptance, so when we get hit with criticism, our reaction is often to retreat and avoid future criticism by doing nothing. Of course, we all know that doig nothing guarantees we fail, we miss out on our potential, and we lose opportunities to help ourselves and others.
Instead, if we can accept that criticism is either helpful in our learning (from those that matter) or meaningless (from those that don’t), we can begin to welcome criticism as a helpful byproduct of our efforts and risk-taking. Take it, reflect on it, determine if it has value and learn from and use it, or ignore it if it lacks value and get back in the game!
